Every Winter, the Streets of Delhi Become Deathbeds for the Abandoned The bitter cold of Delhi’s winter, with temperatures plummeting to as low as 3°C, claims countless lives every year. Over 5,000 abandoned elders—once part of families, once sheltered in homes—now find themselves sleeping on the unforgiving streets.

They are too old or frail to work, and many are handicapped or battling diseases. Begging becomes their only means of survival, but no amount of coins can buy them protection against the biting cold. Without blankets or warm clothing, these elders endure sleepless nights, shivering in the icy air, falling ill, and often succumbing to the harsh conditions. The streets they call home become their graveyards.

We’re Fighting to Save Them—But We Can’t Do It Alone
For over 5 years, Homeless Care Foundation has worked to provide relief to Delhi’s homeless and abandoned. Every winter, we distribute blankets and jackets to save lives. This year, we’ve already handed out over 100 blankets, but with thousands still in desperate need, our resources have run out.
Each elder on the streets requires at least two heavy blankets to survive a freezing night, yet hundreds continue to approach us, begging for warmth and safety.
